Design details:

This 50p commemorates the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. The reverse design by Alex Goudon & Dan Flasjman features a depiction of a sprinter and a cyclist alongside the St Andrew's Cross. The font used on the coin is the Charles Rennie Mackintosh font a Scottish architect, designer. Athletics and cycling are two of the 17 different sports featuring in the Games over 11 days. The Royal Mint invited tangerine to submit designs for the reverse of commemorative fifty pence coins celebrating the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The designs needed to capture the ‘significance and friendly spirit’ of the games, with The Royal Mint Advisory Committee inspecting entries and selecting a winner
