Design details:

The honouring of Beatrix Potter with a series of 50p coins and this Mrs Tiggy-Winkle 50p is the fourth release. Potter based her eponymous character on her much loved pet hedgehog – Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Kitty MacDonald, a Scottish washerwoman. The conscientious hedgehog features on this 50p in her washerwoman’s dress and petticoat. Designed by Emma Noble, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle is instantly recognisable in the centre of the coin.

The 1905 tale, A little girl called Lucie discovers a hidden home high in the hills. She knocks on the door, and meets Mrs Tiggy-Winkle who does all the washing and ironing for the neighbouring animals. Lucie spends a lovely day helping her, but it’s only later that she realises Mrs Tiggy-Winkle is a hedgehog.
